Domperidone
Indications/Uses
Short-term treatment of nausea & vomiting associated w/ L-dopa or bromocriptine therapy for parkinsonism; prokinetic actions in dyspepsia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Nausea & vomiting 10-20 mg tid-qid up to a max of 80 mg daily. Symptomatic treatment of non-ulcer dyspepsia Adult 10 mg tid, last dose to be taken at night. Migraine 20 mg 4 hrly, in combination w/ paracetamol. Max: 4 doses in 24 hr.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach.
Special Precautions
Chronic use or routine prophylaxis of post-op nausea & vomiting. Caution if given IV in patients predisposed to cardiac arrhythmia or hypokalemia. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Increased plasma-prolactin conc; reduced libido, rashes & other allergic reactions; dystonic reactions.
Drug Interactions
Antagonize the GIT activity w/ opioid analgesics & antimuscarinic agents. Antagonizes the hypoprolactinemic effect of bromocriptine. Increased plasma conc w/ azole antifungals & macrolide antibiotics.
